As September approaches, the Makerspace will be hiring its staff for the academic year of 2017-2018. There will be 10 positions available at 10 hours/week, the description of each position is outlined below. Each coordinator will be responsible for a designated number of hours in the Makerspace, offering training on the equipment to walk-ins and helping members with projects as well as other specific tasks related to their role. If you are interested in any of the following positions, please send a resume and cover letter to zalfaesl@uOttawa.ca by July 28th, 2017. Upon submission, each applicant will be considered for any of the following positions based on their qualifications.
Responsible for overseeing the software being used at the Makerspace, updating programs being used, and being the primary liaison with IT.
Responsible for the volunteer program, managing the volunteer exclusive hours, and volunteer rewards system as well as holding weekly meetings for volunteers to follow up on projects, hours, events and workshops volunteers are needed for.
Responsible for planning special events like club’s days, alumni days, design day project fairs as well as the Makerspace design competitions, and involve the Makerspace in many events around campus (Entrepreneurship Week, Sustainability Week, International Women’s Day, Friendship Day, etc.)
Responsible for organizing and instructing the Makerspace training workshops (offered 2-3 times a week), reviewing workshops content and working with student groups to develop new, interesting and multidisciplinary/collaborative workshops.
Responsible for equipment maintenance and fixing machines, follow up on orders for parts and equipment supplies.
Responsible for the community days and community involvement in the Makerspace activities and workshops. The community coordinator runs exclusive hours for the community members on Sundays and oversees volunteers who help in the space on Sundays.
Our lead in outreach for the Makerspace, in charge of contacting other faculties across campus and collaborating with them on projects. Will work on introducing the Makerspace to classes in other faculties through private class lectures and potential tours.
Marketing lead for social media of the Makerspace internally and externally. In charge of designing posters/advertisements and marketing the Makerspace to other faculties across campus.
Responsible for providing technical assistance when needed, as well as doing exploration of the latest and greatest state of the art technology including hardware and software to be incorporated into the Makerspace. The technologies coordinator is responsible for helping developing new content and topic ideas for workshops and events presented by the Makerspace.
